UPDATE 1: Todd Smith will not be running to be the Ontario PC party leader at this time.
That’s according to a statement released on the Prince Edward-Hastings MPP’s Facebook page.
Smith had said that he would consider running after receiving thousands of requests from Ontarians to do so. But Smith says fees to run are simply too high. He also says being a good father to his two daughters is his priority.
Ontario’s PC Party is set to hold a leadership vote on March 10th. Smith says he has not decided who he will support, but that he wants the best person for the job.
Todd Smith might run to be the next Ontario PC leader.
This comes as the party has announced it will be holding a leadership vote on March 10th.
The MPP for Prince Edward-Hastings says a lot of people have asked him to run for the leadership position. Before making a decision, Smith says he will have to talk to his family, and see if there’s support for his bid. Smith says money is also a factor.
Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is the party’s Interim Leader, but has said he will not be taking on the role permanently.
Smith will be running in the Bay of Quinte riding in the upcoming provincial election. The party’s candidate for the Hastings-Lennox and Addington riding will be Darryl Kramp.
