North Hastings residents have mixed feelings about whether or not grocery stores in Bancroft should sell alcohol.
This comes as the province has announced 87 more stores that will be able to start selling beer, cider, and in some cases wine in April. None of the grocery stores in Bancroft have made the list so far.
Moose FM took to the streets to find out how some residents would feel if stores in Bancroft started selling beer, cider, and wine.
The province says stores that are allowed to sell alcohol were selected through a bidding process with the LCBO. Owner of the Bancroft Foodland Joe Favot says he has expressed interest in selling beer and cider at his store to Sobey’s Inc., but is still waiting to find out more. Favot says he has enough space and resources to be able to. At this time, the owners of Pepin’s No Frills in Bancroft are unable to comment on whether or not they will be applying to sell alcohol.
The closest communities to Bancroft with grocery stores that are allowed to sell alcohol are Belleville and Peterborough.
