STSCO apologizes after student information leaked online

A bus company which operates as far north as Apsley is apologizing after accidentally releasing student information online.

On February 7th, Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario says it was trying to post information about a possible bus driver strike in Clarington on Facebook and Twitter. However, the post also included a link to training documents with children’s names, along with their busing and contact information. CAO Joel Sloggett says the document was up for about an hour and a half, before the company was made aware of it, and took it down.

Sloggett says the company is sorry for what happened.

Sloggett says the company has also taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Three parents accessed information about five students, before making the bus company aware of the document. Sloggett says information about students from Apsley was not breached.
