Opeongo Snowbirds officially closes all its trails

The Opeongo Snowbirds has officially closed all its trails for the rest of the season.

That’s according to President Cheryl Reid, who says the club just couldn’t save the trails after the recent rain.

Reid says the club would need up to 12 inches of snow to be able to get the groomer out again. However, she says the forecast doesn’t look like that will happen.

Reid is also urging riders to stay off the trails.

Closing trails this early is not common, but Reid says this has been the worst winter for snowmobile trails in over a decade. She says the club will be putting in lots of work in the off-season to make sure trails are back up and running next winter.
