The local health unit says more federal opioid funding is a step in the right direction.
Money to fight the opioid crisis is included in the 2018 federal budget. Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Program Manager Stephanie McFaul says the big news is that provinces will receive $150-million to put towards opioid treatment programs.
According to McFaul, it’s hard to say if any of the funding will be given to Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health.
In total, more than $230-million has been set aside in the budget to go towards fighting the growing crisis in Canada. McFaul says it’s an issue that continues to exist in both Hastings and Prince Edward counties as well.
McFaul reminds you that Naloxone kits are available for free at the health unit’s Bancroft office, and at local pharmacies.
