OPP: Parents need to talk to kids about stranger safety

Bancroft OPP wants you to talk to your kids about how to stay safe if approached by a stranger.

This comes after a suspicious man was reported to police for offering a child a ride in Cardiff on Monday evening. Constable Philippe Regamey says it’s important to teach your kids about what to do when answering the door, the phone, or speaking to strangers in public.

Parents are also encouraged to get as much information as they can about any suspicious person and report it to police. That includes what their vehicle looks like, the licence plate number, and even pictures if possible.

Regamey says parents should also teach their children to never get into or near a stranger’s vehicle, no matter what they’re offering.

Regamey says you should also encourage your kids to be in a group when they go out, and to have safe places to go to.
