Residents of Highlands East will be paying higher taxes this year.
Homeowners will see an increase of $7.60 per $100,000 of assessed value, which also includes the county and education portions of the tax bill. The less-than-one per cent increase from Highlands East will cover a levy of $5,538,642 for the municipality.
Mayor Dave Burton says council and staff did a great job in preparing the budget.
He says 30 per cent of the 2018 budget is devoted to road maintenance and upgrades.
Environmental services, such as landfill operations, is the second biggest item in Highlands East’s budget, accounting for 16 per cent.
