Garry Taylor Handlen, the man charged in the murder of two BC girls, was no stranger in Minden. One employee at a Minden retail store says Handlen was a regular customer and had been in the store during the week he was arrested. The employee said Handlen had a good reputation as a handyman and he was always pleasant to work with. He added that Handlen’s clients were mostly single women who never had a bad word to say about him. Handlen was reported to have been living on Anson Street for the past ten years. The body of 11 year-old Kathryn-Mary Herbert was found in 1975 in an underdeveloped area two months after she went missing. 12 year-old Monica Jack went missing in 1978 and her body wasn’t found until 17 years later in a rural area. Handlen was arrested on November 28th in connection with the deaths, and is to appear in Abbotsford court on Monday.
