Wollaston, Limerick, and Madoc consider shared-fire chief

Wollaston, Limerick, and Madoc are looking into sharing a fire chief.

That’s according to Limerick Fire Chief and Wollaston Acting Fire Chief Jason Post, who says the idea is still in the early-discussion phase. However, Post says all three communities could benefit from having a shared-fire chief.

Post says it can be very challenging for a volunteer fire chief to keep up with all the training and standards needed in a fire department. He says having a shared-chief would not reduce service. Post also says it’s unclear how much each community would have to chip in.

Post says if the communities decide to move forward with a shared-chief, they will have to figure out how the cost will be split.  While it’s hard to know how much it would cost for Wollaston to hire its own fire chief, Post says it could be anywhere from $50,000 to $85,000.

Nothing is set in stone at this point as the communities are still looking into the idea, which is expected to be discussed again in early May.
