Bancroft finds over a dozen leaks into sewer pipes

There could be up to 13 places where water is leaking into Bancroft’s sewer system.

CAO Hazel Lambe told council today that she has received a report on camera images taken from sewer pipes in town. The report sets out that there could be over a dozen breaks or sags in them. Lambe says this is driving up the cost of running the town’s sewer plant. She says the town will now have to put metres in to find out how much water is seeping into each leak before it can figure out how it will address the problem.

According to Lambe, the town will be applying for grants to help pay for repairs to the pipes or adjustments at the plant.  But, she also says the town won’t know how much it will cost to fix the leaks until it can figure out how big they are. Lambe says the goal in all of this is to save money on running the sewer system.

The process of running cameras through the town’s sewer system started last June. It was possible with the help of Clean Water and Waste Water Funds from the provincial and federal governments.
