Haliburton County considers paving Monck Road in Cardiff

A county road in Cardiff could end up changing hands after getting repaired. Highlands East asked the county last month if it would consider paving County Road Nine, which is also known as Monck Road. The road leads from Highway 118 into Cardiff.

Is his report to the county’s Roads Committee, Public Works Director Craig Douglas says the cost of paving the 400 metre stretch of road would be approximately $75,000. Highlands East Mayor Dave Burton says the county suggested Highlands East take over ownership of the road.

Burton adds Monck Road will be transferred to Highlands East once the work is done. While he wasn’t sure when the work would start, Burton is hopeful the paving will be finished by the fall at the latest.

The county’s Roads Committee is recommending council go into reserves to pay for the work and council will make a decision on that recommendation at its monthly meeting on April 25th.
