Fire in Bannockburn blamed for cell, home phone, and internet disruption

A Tudor man is accused of starting a fire that knocked off cell, home phone, and internet services in North Hastings.

Central Hastings OPP says officers were called out to a fire at an abandoned home in Bannockburn at 3:00am on Sunday. Police arrested a 32-year-old later that morning. He is also suspected of breaking into a home on Cleveland Road the night before to steal shoes and some money. The accused now faces charges of break and enter, arson, and failing to comply with probation.

Constable Lisa Robson says the fire disrupted home phone, cell, and internet services in parts of Tudor and Cashel, Limerick, Wollaston, Faraday, Bancroft, and Hastings Highlands on Sunday. These services were down from around 4:00am to 9:00pm. Bell Spokesperson Jacqueline Michelis says new cables had to be brought in and installed because of the fire. She says crews worked as quickly as possible to restore service for customers as soon as it was safe.
