Campaigns for municipal elections can start tomorrow

Starting tomorrow, you can register to run in this year’s municipal election.

Communities across the area will start accepting your nomination papers. In order to run, these forms have to be signed by 25 voters supporting your bid. You also need to prove you are 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, and a resident of the municipality. There are fees for anyone who chooses to run, which can change depending on the community, and which council seat they’re going for.

You have until July 27th to fill out and submit the papers. If you haven’t done that, you can’t start your campaign, or raise or spend money on it. To find out more, you can contact the municipality you will be running in.

This year’s municipal election will be on October 22nd in communities across Ontario.
