HPEPH offers tips to help you make healthy choices when eating out

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health wants to help families make healthier choices when eating out.

The health unit is sending out brochures this month to families in the region with tips to help them make informed choices when going out to eat.  They will be sent home with local students, so parents are being encouraged to check their backpacks.

Register Dietitian Jennine Seaman says the health unit understands that eating out is a reality for busy families. But she says it’s important to pay attention to serving sizes when you do.

Seaman also says eating slowly is one of the ways you can know when you’re full.

The health unit says you can also check calories at restaurants with at least 20 locations because they have to be posted on the menu.
