Bancroft Council expected to appoint new councillor and approve budget

Bancroft Council could fill a vacant seat at its table this week.

Council is expected to fill the role during its meeting this Friday, although there is no word yet on who will be appointed. The new councillor will hold the seat until the upcoming municipal election in October. They will take over for Councillor Bill Kilpatrick, who resigned in March. Council is also expected to approve the town’s 2018 budget on Friday. It could see taxes go down by about three per cent, or about $72-a-year for the median property assessed at $142,000. Mayor Paul Jenkins has said council wants to bring taxes down to encourage developers to build in Bancroft, and in turn, get people to move here.
