The province has announced a number of investments in projects in Eastern Ontario, aimed at developing and supporting jobs and growth. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is helping communities to boost tourism, attract investment and create jobs with funding from the Rural Economic Development program. Some of these projects include:
The amalgamated municipalities of Prince Edward County will receive up to $102,550 to create a regional plan for its five distinct commercial downtown cores.
The Town of Renfrew will receive up to $14,496 to prepare a Community Improvement Plan focused on increasing economic development, tourism, commercial and residential development.
Algonquin Gateway Tourist and Business Association will receive up to $5,750 to create a GeoTour and cement their claim as the “Geocaching Capital of Canada.”
The Township of Greater Madawaska will receive up to $27,500 to create a community development strategy and plan with a view to future economic growth.
The County of Haliburton will receive up to $32,000 to develop a marketing and branding plan to boost tourism and economic development in the area.
The Balmoral Hotel in Barry’s Bay will receive up to $105,920 to make improvements to this historic hotel in rural Barry’s Bay and increase the area’s tourism infrastructure.
