Bancroft decides to share main street funding with downtown businesses

Businesses in Bancroft’s downtown core can apply for a piece of Main Street Revitalization funding.

In March, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario announced Bancroft would be getting $41,000 through the program. Earlier today, council decided it would share $28,000 of that money with local businesses. Councillor Mary Kavanagh says it’s because this would have the greatest impact on improving the downtown core. She says businesses along Main Street can apply for an up-to-$2,000-grant from the town, so long as they match the amount.

Kavanagh says the town will also hold on to about $13,000 of the cash for projects on Main Street that wouldn’t be up to businesses to address.

The province says the goal of the main street funding is to attract tourists, create jobs, and grow the economy.
