Bancroft Council appoints new member

Bancroft Council now has a new member sitting at the table.

Council voted in favour of appointing John Kirby to the role earlier today. He takes over a seat left vacant after Bill Kilpatrick resigned in March. Kirby says he’s grateful for the opportunity.

The town says Kirby volunteers with a number of organizations. He also served one partial term before this in 2013 and 2014 after the death of a councillor. Kirby says he can bring quite a bit to the table for council and the people of Bancroft.

Kirby was sworn into office today.

Mayor Paul Jenkins says council is very happy to have him on board. Jenkins says council picked him based on a few criteria; he has experience, he is a Dungannon resident, he is not seeking re-election in October, and he has a proven interest in the community. The Mayor says these were important criteria because the next municipal election is just a few months away.
