If you drove through downtown Bancroft during the May long weekend, you probably noticed something different.
That’s because the downtown core was covered in yarn turtles to raise awareness for World Turtle Day in the Bancroft area.
The project was executed by Knittervention, but the idea was brought forth to them by Kelly Wallace, the Founder of Think Turtle Conservation Initiative. Wallace says she brought the idea to the group months ago after an earlier project of theirs.
She says one of the toughest parts of the yarn-bombing was keeping quiet about it.
Wallace figures there is at least a few hundred knitted turtles around Bancroft that vary in size, colour and appearance, but isn’t sure of the exact amount.
World Turtle Day is this Wednesday, May 23rd.
