The OPP Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign ended its five-week run on January 2nd. During that time OPP in the Eastern Ontario Region (including North Hastings) ran 2,308 check stops. Eighty-seven people were charged 87 with Impaired, Over 80 or Refusal to Provide a sample compared to 116 last year. Unfortunately, officers also issued 105 driver’s licence suspensions, compared to 96 during last year’s campaign. The OPP is asking you to stop impaired driving and to discourage others from doing it. If you encounter an impaired driver, call 911 so police can take the driver off the road before someone is hurt.
