Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health is changing its approach to tick testing.
Starting Monday, the health unit will no longer accept ticks that were submitted from south of Highway 7. Instead, the updated focus will accept ticks from north of Highway 7, with staff actively sampling ticks in targeted areas north of 7.
HPEPH will also be working with neighbouring health unit and will keep the public informed on Lyme disease as the summer goes on.
Residents are reminded to protect themselves at all times from ticks by using bug spray with DEET, wearing longer pants and shirts, and checking for ticks on both themselves and pets after they come inside.
