Madawaska Valley Fire Department South Hall Deputy Chief retiring

After nearly two decades of service, the Madawaska Valley Fire Department South Hall Deputy Chief is calling it a career.

The announcement was made at Monday evening’s Council Meeting by Fire Chief Corwin Quade. Stuart Hecht, a 19-year-veteran with the fire department, is retiring from the role as he feels it’s in the best interest of both himself and the fire department.

Quade says that a big reason for Hecht’s departure was the new fire certifications expected to take effect in 2019. After receiving news from Hecht, Quade says he talked to firefighters at both the North and South halls to find a replacement and decided on Ralph Parisen, an 11-year veteran with the fire department.

Madawaska Valley Council says it plans on commemorating Hecht for his service.
