Residents Reminded to be Safe When Starting Campfires This Weekend

With the beautiful weather outside, now is the perfect time to gather around the Campfire at night with your friends. However, North Hastings Fire Services are reminding you to be safe when around the fire.

Fire Chief Pat Hoover says that even after you think you put the fire out, you still need to keep an eye on it to make sure it’s fully out.

Hoover added that the best way to make sure you’re fire is put out properly is by pouring a bucket of water over it not once, but twice. You should also be aware of the wind and where the fire is because a big gust of wind could knock the last few burning embers into the grass and start a fire, which you would be liable for.

He noted you should also be aware of when you are starting a fire because there is a day-time burning ban in effect.
