The Bancroft Lions and the North Hastings Family Health Team, assisted by Ashlie’s Books, brought a late Christmas present to North Hastings Children’s Services. The two groups donated almost 100 new children’s books to the day-care centre, and its pre-school and after-school programs at York River and Birds Creek Public Schools. The Children’s Services Executive Director Jessica Anderson said they were in need of new books, as about half their current stock is damaged. They receive no funding for books or craft materials for our kids, and must rely on donations. Since how a child develops in the early years affects their lifelong health and well-being, having reading opportunities is critical to their future.
