With a heat wave hitting Bancroft just in time for Canada Day long weekend, Public Health are reminding you to stay cool this weekend.

It’s important to stay hydrated and continuing drinking Water throughout the day. That’s what Hastings and Prince Edward Senior Public Health Inspector John Cannan says is important to do because you’ll be sweating all day and getting de-hydrated.

He says that it will be most important to be drinking Water and not Alcohol or sugar-filled drinks like Soda.

He adds that it’s important to apply Sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you go out into the Sun and apply it throughout the day. He suggests every 2 hours. He always says the most important places to apply Sunscreen are areas that are directly facing the Sun like your nose and shoulders.

He says the best ways to beat the heat other than staying hydrated are wearing a wide-brimmed hat to protect your head and shoulders and, if possible, go inside where there’s air conditioning every so often to cool down.
