Accidental 911 Calls Still a Problem for Police

The OPP is still having problems with accidental or non-emergency calls to 9-1-1. Accidental calls placed through 9-1-1 have included an accidental dial while the phone was on the couch, children playing with the phone, cell phone pocket calls, phone malfunctioning and misdialing when calling another phone number. To prevent unintentional 9-1-1 calls, remember to:
• Lock mobile phones by using the keypad lock feature.
• If your mobile device has a 9-1-1 auto-dial feature, disable it.
• Don’t program 9-1-1 into speed dial.
• Don’t place your cell phone in a position where the keys can be accidentally pressed, use a case or holster to protect it when you put it away.
