We see them going down Hastings Street everyday and the OPP want to make sure they are driving safely.
The OPP launched a Provincial campaign today that promotes safe trucking. The campaign will run from July 15th to the 21st. The point of the campaign is to lower the amount of crashes caused by transport trucks by better enforcing speeding, aggressive driving, following too close, driver impairment and hours of service violations.
In a press release, Bancroft OPP say that while the majority of transport truck drivers are responsible and professional drivers, this campaign will target the ones that drive dangerously.
OPP Constable Philippe Regamey says that while it’s important for truckers to be safe, other drivers have a responsibility to be careful too.
In the OPP’s East region, fatal transport truck collisions are up 33.3% from this time last year. OPP say that they have investigated more than 3,600 transport truck related crashes so far this year. That represents 11% of the 34,461 total crashes this year.
