Fire Ban Still in Place Despite Rain in Forecast

It’s been a week since it was announced, but the Bancroft Fire Department remind you that the total fire ban is still in place.

Despite rain being in the forecast this week, Matt Musclow, the Fire Prevention Operations Officer with the Bancroft Fire Department, says that it isn’t enough to call off the ban.

There was a fire late last week off of Chemaushgon Road, but the fire department was able to get it under control thanks to it being called in quickly. Musclow said it had the potential to get bad because it was located far away from a water source and because of high winds. He added that other than that, there have been no other fires reported.

Musclow added that despite the fire department being clear that a total burn ban means no fires of any kind are allowed, they have still been getting questions.

Musclow added that while the fire department does have the ban under control, the Ministry of Natural Resources have said they are available as back-up if needed. He went on to say that since they aren’t able to go door-to-door to make sure people know of the ban and aren’t burning, the fire department are relying on residents to report any burning and to not be doing any open-air burning themselves.
