Charges Laid In Year Old Algonquin Park Drowning Investigation

Charges have been laid in the drowning death of a Toronto teen in Algonquin Park.

It was last July when Jeremiah Perry disappeared into the water of Big Trout Lake on a school trip.

The teen was not wearing a life jacket when he joined other classmates who were washing in the water.  He had also failed a swimming test prior to heading out.

Killaoe OPP says they have charged 54-year old Nicholas Mills of Caledon with criminal negligence causing death.

The suspect is a teacher where Jeremiah went to school.

The 15-year old’s drowning captured national attention and prompted the Toronto District School Board to re-evaluate and rework its rules around school trips which included tightening safety measures around swimming.
