OPP Releases Stats for Safe Trucking Campaign

The OPP say their Provincial-wide Operation Safe Trucking campaign was a success.

Overall, from July 15th to the 21st, there were 4,254 commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) stopped with 2,479 charges laid. Of those charges, 576 were for speeding, 114 were for distracted driving and 75 for following too close. 120 unsafe CMVs were taken off the road during the campaign.

In Eastern Ontario, OPP patrolled for 264 hours and made 290 stops. Of note, they made 65 for speeding, 1 for distracted driving, 1 for following to close, 1 for an unsafe lane change and 1 for driving with a suspended license.

No charges were laid in Bancroft, but they did make 19 inspections of the 59 total that were done in Eastern Ontario.

In a statement, the OPP said, “as expected, our officers noted that the vast majority of CMV drivers were operating their trucks in a safe manner during this initiative. The OPP would like to thank these (and other) drivers who contribute to safe roads and help save lives.”
