Alzheimer’s Hits Women More Often

Women generally tend to live longer than men and this may well be a factor in the startling number of women who develop Alzheimer’s disease. There are over 700 thousand Canadians with Alzheimer’s disease, and approximately 72 per cent are women. This number has prompted the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada to launch a new campaign called “The 72%.” It is aimed at women aged 40 years and older and explains the 10 warning signs of the disease. There will be information booths operated in Bancroft, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank on Friday January 16th, TD Bank Thursday January 22nd and Tuesday January 27 at Foodland. More help can be had by calling the local office of the Alzheimer’s Society at 613 332 4614.
