Food Missing From North Hastings Community Trust Gardens

The North Hastings Community Trust wants to send a message to Bancroft after two gardens have been vandalized over the past two weeks.

The gardens were one of the 23 raised garden beds that the Community Trust has helped people plant in Riverside park. The Community Trust helps people plant the gardens, then those people maintain the garden throughout the year. Jane Kali, the Director of the North Hastings Community Trust, says many people rely on the produce grown in those gardens for food.

The garden program started in 2015 and people have mostly been respectful of them, Kali says. She wants the community to know that there’s no need to take from other people’s gardens. The Community Trust will help you start your own garden or give you food for free if you need it.

Kali is asking the community that if you do have extra food in your gardens that you’re willing to donate you can drop it off at the Community Trust at 23B Bridge Street or call them at 613-332-3757.
