M.P.P. Daryl Kramp Calls $15 Billion Deficit Obscene

M.P.P. Daryl Kramp says the findings of Independent Financial Commission of Inquiry shows the Liberal government’s spending was out of control.

The report was released by the Ontario government yesterday and it showed that the Liberal government left the province with a $15 billion deficit. “That’s obscene. That’s spending that’s been out of control,” Kramp said.

“Quite frankly, I’m very very worried to some extent we’re mortgaged the future of our young people,” Kramp said. He added that difficult decisions are going to have to be made. He went on to say, “the easiest thing is to throw money at the problem and hope it goes away.”

Kramp, who has previously sat on the Treasury Board Advisory Caucus, says that the board will have to get to work examining spending. They have to look for errors, omissions and saving opportunities, he says. “We have to spend in order to be able to meet the needs of the people and their expectations and deliver the services they want. That’s the responsibility of government,” he said.

Kramp said he knows a lot of work will need to be done going forward deciding what cuts, if any, need to be made. “We need to spend money on things we need, not things we simply want,” he said.
