Residents Continue to Fight to Keep Pool of Dreams Fund Money in The Community

The deadline to submit proposals for what to do with the Pool of Dreams Fund money has passed.

The deadline was set as September 28th. My Bancroft Now reached out to a source on the North Hastings Recreation Center Fundraising Committee, who control the $192,000 in the Pool of Dreams Fund, and the source says that they received one proposal letter. The source says it hasn’t been opened yet because the committee hasn’t met since the deadline passed.

Wilma Brethour, who runs the Facebook page Concerned Citizens of Bancroft & Dungannon and started the North Hastings Pool of Dreams Negotiation Committee, asked for a deadline extension on September 5th. She sent out another request for an extension over the weekend. “Personally I believe that the residents of Bancroft and North Hastings should be at least given an accounting of the money they raised and they should also have an opportunity to have input into how the money is spent,” the statement reads. Brethour says she would like an open meeting with the members of the committee.

My Bancroft Now’s source on the Fundraising Committee would not comment on the six month extension Brethour has previously asked for.

“Without some open, honest and transparent communications you can bet that the people of North Hastings will think twice before they donate to any cause in the future,” Brethour says in the statement. “Without trust and respect shown to the people, who raised this money, it is my opinion that the negative impacts on North Hastings will be far reaching and last long into the future,” she added.
