Public Library Week is an Opportunity to Celebrate Everything Local Libraries do For The Community

Ontario will be celebrating libraries throughout October.

This week, public libraries will be what’s celebrated across Ontario. “Public library week is a celebration,” says Kimberly McMunn, the CEO of the North Hastings Public Library. The theme this year is “a visit will get you thinking.” That’s why McMunn wants to hear from visitors to the library. “We’d love to have people come through the doors and tell us what brought them in and what made them think while they were here,” she says.

McMunn says a community survey went out a few months ago asking residents what they wanted to see changed with the library. “People in the community asked for a change in hours,” she says. That’s why the library is now open from 10 AM to 3 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and open from 2 PM to 7 on Thursday. The library will be closed on Monday and Sunday.

McMunn says they’ll be celebrating staff this week with two members hitting significant work anniversaries this month. McMunn says one employee is celebrating her 25th anniversary with the team, while another is celebrating 18 years working at the library.

“There are so many things that libraries offer,” McMunn says. “It can be something as fabulous as picking up a book, getting an e-book, or for some it can be a place for socialization or for others a place to get warm,” she says.
