Cookbook Honouring the Women of North Hastings Set to be Released

The North Hastings Heritage Museum put together a book to honour the women of North Hastings’ past.

The book is called “Honouring the Women of North Hastings – their stories and recipes” and it will be available on Tuesday. You can buy the cookbook for $30 at the North Hastings Heritage Museum. All proceeds from sales of the book go to support the operation of and programs at the museum.

The cookbook was thought-up after members of the Museum board noticed that many of the donated artifacts would highlight the men, but not the women. Jody Didier, a member of the Museum board, noted when she spoke with My Bancroft Now in August how different the life of a woman was at the turn of the century. Didier added that the cookbook will detail how important women have been to North Hastings.

People were asked to submit recipes for the book along with a story about the woman behind the recipe. Didier called the stories they received for the book “incredible.”

The book launch party will be at noon on Tuesday at the Museum. M.P. for Hastings-Lennox and Addington Mike Bossio was a key figure in getting this book made and will be at the party along with Councillor Mary Kavanagh, other members of Bancroft council and the museum board. The party is open to the public as well.
