Too Early for Snowmobiles

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) says you shouldn’t jump on that sled just yet.

Although there is snow on the ground, Cheryl Reid, Governor of District 6 with the OFSC says that it’s still not safe to go out for a ride. She says the trails have not been checked and many of them go through private property where land owners may not have moved their animals, they may still have crop and don’t want their land to be damaged. She says that volunteers have not cleared any trees from the trails and the consistency and depth of the snow has not reached standards.

When the snow will be ready, riders will be encouraged to follow safety tips. Reid says this year the Federation is trying to promote sledders to ride their side. She says it’s just like a car. If you’re a beginner she advises you to always to go out with a friend and to dress warmly.

Dependent on Mother Nature, trails are expected to be ready at the beginning of December. For more information on the OFSC, click here.
