United Way Is On Its Way

The United Way campaign is doing well but it was off to a slow start says campaign executive director for Hastings and Prince Edward, Kathy Murphy.

Murphy says that they have raised $700 000 out of a 2 million dollar goal which they hope to reach by the end of the campaign on December 31st.

She told us that the campaign has a broad reach, supplying funds to over 70 programs used by the community. She says that what is raised locally, stays local.

According to Murphy, 1 in 3 residents use one of the 70 programs that United Way works with including Bancroft community transit, North Hastings Children Services and the Belleville Youth Centre. She says these programs help people suffering with illnesses, disabilities and homelessness to name a few. These are all problems affecting the community and says that with their 60th year anniversary, the campaign wants to keep on helping. For more information on United Way, click here.
