Bancroft Councillor Named Hastings County’s Tourism MVP

Councillor Mary Kavanagh says she will proudly display it at the North Hastings Heritage Museum.

What’s she talking about? The MVP for Tourism in Hastings County award she won at the 2018 Hastings County Tourism Awards last week. She was nominated for the award for the work she does as a part of the Museum board, the Wheels, Water and Wings event and other initiatives like the Veteran’s banners that are put up in November and the newly released cookbook “Honouring the Woman of North Hastings – their stories and recipes.”

“It gives me the incentive to move ahead with many of the other plans the museum board has discussed,” Kavanagh says about winning the award. “Many of the initiatives involve accommodating as many tourists and as many local people as we can,” she adds.

When talking about the museum, Kavanagh mentions how people have been coming from further and further away to see what’s displayed. She says that the guest book that’s at the museum has notes from people that have come from as far away as Germany.

“The award is really not an individual award,” Kavanagh says. “It’s an award that’s been presented to me as an individual but the boards that I am on are really instrumental in promoting all of the projects and events we have going on,” she continues.

The other winners were the Hidden Goldmine Bakery who were named Tourism Champion of the Year and the Tweed Stampede was named Festival of the Year.
