“I Think This Will be a One-Off,” Says CEO of Tri-Board Transportation

After cancelling buses this morning due to the cold weather, My Bancroft Now reached out to Tri-Board Transportation for clarification on what causes school buses to be cancelled.

“We knew it was likely we would cancel this morning so it made sense to cancel last night (as opposed to the morning of),” the CEO of Tri-Board Gord Taylor said. “It’s all about the kids,” he continued when asked for the reasoning behind the cancellation. While making sure the buses run properly important every morning, they can be replaced. Making sure the students get to school safely is the number one priority. He added that this is the first system-wide bus cancellation in Tri-Board’s 15-year history.

“I think this will be a one-off,” Taylor said when asked if he foresees bus cancellations being announced the day before more often. He said it’s hard to anticipate the day before how the roads will be the next morning. “You really have to wait for the day of to make a call,” he added.

Taylor also took the time to clarify what will cause a bus cancellation. He says when Tri-Board meets around 4 AM every morning they look at three things before making a decision:

  • Legacy road conditions
    • “That means there was snow last night or that morning and roads aren’t passable,” Taylor said.
  • Current conditions
  • Forecasted weather
    • Taylor said that buses could be cancelled mid-day if they notice in the forecast the weather will take a bad turn in the afternoon.
