Welding Program at North Hastings High School Getting a Funding Boost

North Hastings High School’s manufacturing shop is set to get some upgrades.

It’s thanks to the Canadian Welding Association who are giving the school $70,000 to help with the upgrades. The principal of North Hastings High Wayne Stewart says the upgrades will be to the ventilation and new welding machines and booths will be made too. The work will begin in February and Stewart expects it to be done by September.

Stewart says the donation came in because the CWA hopes it gets more people interested in their trade. He adds that this program and some other have seen declines in enrollment. “We’re hoping with new equipment and materials we’ll get some more kids interested in welding and see it as a viable career choice,” he said.
