Two Snowmobilers Taken to Hospital After Separate Crashes Over Weekend

Two snowmobile crashes happened on the same day with both drivers needing to be taken to a hospital.

The first happened just before noon on Saturday. A 29-year-old man from the USA crashed near Williams Lake just off of McCormick Road in Hastings Highlands. Bancroft OPP report he was ejected from his snowmobile after driving it dangerously. The man was not wearing any protective gear.

A section of the roadway had to be closed by Bancroft OPP who were joined on-scene by the Hastings Highlands Fire Department. The Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services airlifted the man to a hospital with “life-altering injuries,” as said in the OPP’s press release.

Later that same day, a snowmobile was involved in a collision with a car around 4 PM. It happened on Highway 127 near Iron Bridge Road. A 72-year-old man from Barrie, Ontario was ejected from his snowmobile after hitting the car. He suffered non-life threatening injuries but was still taken to a hospital by Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services.

The 72-year-old man was charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.
