Fluctuating Temperatures Causing Increase in Potholes

The cold overnight temperatures and warmer day-time temperatures are what causes potholes.

Public Works Manager Perry Kelly says that in winter the ground freezes solid. The often changing temperatures are causing the road to thaw, which is how potholes develop, he says.

“The only thing we can do is maintain them,” Kelly says when asked about repairing the potholes. He explains that his team will go to the problem area and spray a bonding agent onto the holes before packing down some material.

Kelly asks anyone that does notice a pothole to call the Town office at 613-332-3331. “We only have so many sets of eyes to look after everything,” he says.
