Care Model Changing at Quinte Health Care

The recent announcement of service and job cutbacks at Quinte Health Care is prompting the corporation to come out with a detailed look at what its new care model will look like.  QHC says that the cutting of many Registered Nurse positions means the ones left will be working in areas like planning, teaching and counselling.  Registered Practical Nurses will continue to care for patients while more Personal Support Workers will be brought in to assist patients with day-to-day tasks.  Doctors and other medical professionals will work with patients and their families.  QHC says this will give patients more one-on-one time with RPNs and PSWs at its four hospitals.  The corporation’s website says it’s currently hiring doctors for the family medicine and emergency departments at the Bancroft hospital.
