Prime Minister Has M.P. Bossio’s Full Support in SNC-Lavalin Affair

“Absolutely, unequivocally I support the prime minister,” Bossio says in the wake of former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould’s testimony on the SNC-Lavalin affair last week.

“Could I be on a list someday that’s pressured a minster of advocated too hard on a given file?” M.P. for Hastings-Lennox and Addington Mike Bossio says. “Yeah, but that’s my job,” Bossio says about protecting jobs and his constituents.

“What SNC-Lavalin did was wrong,” Bossio says but he believes the Prime Minister was acting in good faith to protect the nearly 9,000 Canadian SNC-Lavalin employees. Bossio says it’s the job of an M.P. and especially the Prime Minister to protect jobs. “If I had SNC-Lavalin employees in my riding, I’d be fighting to defend those jobs,” Bossio adds. “After all, it is not their fault that some executives broke the law.”

He says that while the Prime Minister and former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould are both right, they are coming at this from different perspectives. “I have tremendous respect for Jody Wilson-Raybould,” he says. “She is someone that has that strength of character and conviction to do what she thinks is right.” Bossio says he feels the same way about Trudeau. “I don’t question where anyone’s heart is in this issue,” he adds.

A CTV News/Nanos survey reports that one in four Canadians say this scandal will influence their vote in the upcoming election. “Once people start to really take a look at this situation for what it is I think this will pass and we will go into the election dealing with the real issues that Canadians want us to deal with,” Bossio says.
