Minister Says Province is Supporting Trappers

The Province of Ontario is continuing its partnership with wildlife trappers.

Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski says that the Provincial Government is investing $1.1 million in the Ontario Fur Managers Federation.

Yakabuski says that the OFMF helps the province with administrative duties and wants to keep the relationship going. He says the industry helps Ontario’s economy due to the money that comes in from the sale of furs. He adds that a portion of sales goes to a special purpose account to help fishing and wildlife programs throughout the Province.

Approximately 8,700 commercial trapping licenses are sold annually Yakabuski says. The partnership with the OFMF has been extended by three years.

The full press release is available on the Ontario government’s website.
