The Bancroft Fire Department Reminds You to do More Than Just Turn Your Clocks Forward on Sunday

With clocks set to be moved forward an hour this Sunday, the Bancroft Fire Department wants to make sure you check these things as well.

Matt Musclow, the Fire Prevention and Operations Officer with the fire department, says that you should also check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarm. He adds that you should check the expiry date as well. For smoke detectors, they last for 10 years, while a carbon monoxide alarm is good for seven years.

Having a licensed technician stop by to check your chimney is a good idea too, Musclow says. It’s important to have that done to make sure it’s safe and in good shape for the spring.

He also suggests taking a look at anything in your home that may be on an automatic timer and making sure it’s updated Sunday.
