March Weather Will Vary, Says Environment Canada

You won’t be wearing your flip flops anytime soon.

That’s the message from Peter Kimbell, the Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada, who says the weather in March will vary.

He says that January was very cold, February was normal and that March’s cold temperatures so far is to be expected. Going forward, Kimbell says to expect the weather to vary because the sun is getting warmer as we’re getting closer to spring. Despite that, he says spring is taking its time coming to Ontario this year.

“Weather is always variable, we’re going through a cold spell now but snow will change to rain on Sunday and we’ll get a warm spell then we’ll be back to below zero again,” Kimbell says. “That’s how weather operates.”

As for predicting future forecasts, Kimbell says that Environment Canada is pretty accurate with their forecasts when it’s within a week but once you pass that time frame, their accuracy goes down remarkably.

In terms of records, he says the warmest day in March was in 1970 when it was 22 degrees. The coldest day was recorded on March 1st, 1977 when it was -32 degrees.
