After a snowmobile crash over the weekend, OPP is warning sledders to be more cautious than usual on the trails.
The crash happened on the E109 trail in Hastings Highlands last Thursday. Bancroft OPP went to the scene along with the Nipissing District Paramedic Services and found a 52-year-old male from Little Britain, Ontario who had severe injuries. He had collided with a trail groomer. He was transported to a local hospital but later transferred by Ornge Air to another facility due to the extent of his injuries.
“Slow down,” Constable Philippe Regamey says. “We’re asking those individuals that are still on the trails to drive safe.” Regamey says trail conditions will be changing every day, possibly every hour, so it’s important to be more cautious if you’re still going out for a ride.
When it comes to ice, Regamey says that while it all depends on the conditions and the area where the ice is, it’s best to stay off of it. “Because of the weather that’s changing each and every day, we’re looking at higher temperatures so ice isn’t going to be safe,” he says.
