Pancontinental Resources Out of McBride Mining Project in Limerick

It has been quiet lately with the proposed mine in Limerick, but last week it was announced that Pancon has pulled out of the project.

Limerick Area Conservation Coalition co-founder Monica Nikopoulos notes that Derek McBride still has the mineral rights to the area. If he gets another investor, she says the proposed mine could become a problem again.

Pancon pulled out of the project because they acquired the St. Laurent Project in Northern Ontario. “Concurrent with this acquisition, the company has made the decision to terminate its Option Agreement on the McBride Project in southeastern Ontario,” their statement reads. The project is 160 kilometres northeast of Timmins.

“If he pushes hard, we’re just going to push back even harder,” Nikopoulos says with on possibility of McBride getting another investor. With that in mind, she wants to start a letter writing campaign to the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. “MNDM will take that into consideration,” she says of the letters she hopes residents write. Nikopoulos says the MNDM looks at mines their “own individual merits.”

McBride’s mining plan with the MNDM expires on May 6th. A deadline of April 6th is set for anyone wanting to send their opposition to further mining in the area, Nikopoulos notes. “That the MNDN even allowed any kind of exploration plan for this particular nickel, cobalt and copper mine needs to revisited and updated,” she says.

My Bancroft Now reached out to both President and CEO of Pancon Layton Croft and Project Manager Derek McBride, but they were both unavailable.
